Happy 10 year birthday, Dreamcast!
It was 10 years ago today that Sega launched the Dreamcast here in the U.S. It beat the PS2 and XBOX to market in the 6th generation console wars, but ended up being the loser in the race (Sega discontinued the Dreamcast in March 2001). I was also a little sketchy of it at first, but warmed up and ended up getting one in December 1999. I have such fond memories of playing games like Soul Caliber, DoA2, Crazy Taxi, and Ready 2 Rumble for hours on end. And who could forget those awesome accessories, like the fishing pole? This was loong before the Wii.
Unfortunately for Sega, the Playstation2 and XBOX were released a year later, everyone seemed to abandon you. And lets not forget the backwards compatibility of the PS2 and the marketing money behind the XBOX. Our poor little Dreamcast never had a chance past October 2000.
So, Dreamcast, I bid you a happy birthday. I’m sad I no longer own my Dreamcast, as I could go for some Jet Set Radio right about now.
